HIV/TB Services

HIV and TB prevention:

Prevention is the cornerstone of public health interventions for both HIV and TB. We support the implementation of comprehensive prevention strategies that combine behavioural, biomedical, and structural approaches. The following interventions are key components of our HIV and TB prevention package:
• Health education and behavioral change communication.
• HIV testing services to children, adolescents, women, and their families.
• Linkage of HIV-negative clients to HIV prevention options like condoms, Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), Post post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), and voluntary medical male circumcision for eligible men.
• Linkage of HIV-positive individuals to Anti-retroviral therapy, clinical care, and psychosocial support.
• TB preventive therapy for eligible HIV-negative and HIV-positive clients as well as prevention and management of opportunistic infections in individuals with Advanced HIV Disease.
• Prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT) through the promotion of high-quality pre-conception care, antenatal services, safe delivery, and postnatal care for both the mother and the HIV-exposed infant.

Transforming Lives And Building Resilience For People Living With HIV

TRANSFORMING LIVES AND BUILDING RESILIENCE FOR PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV
Member of the Obulamu group at Kalemungole HCIII

Since its formation, the Obulamu group, based in Kosiroi village, Tapac sub-county, Moroto district has become a socio-economic and psychosocial support system for people living with HIV. With an initial membership of 22, the group faced significant challenges, including 10 members struggling with HIV viral load non-suppression. Through weekly peer support meetings facilitated by a health care provider, shared experiences have fostered adherence thus reducing the number of non-suppressed from ten to three members..

When the group was established, stigma posed one of the greatest barriers to the members’ well-being. Members came together to share their challenges and brainstorm solutions. Over time, this open and supportive environment has reduced stigma, encouraging more men and women living with HIV to join.

“As an expert client and leader of the Obulamu group, I have been able to reach many members, even those who live far from Kosiroi. I also support them with their monthly drug refills,” says the group leader and expert client at Kalemungole Health Center III.

Previously, members had to travel long distances to access health services. Today, partnerships between Kalemungole Health Center III, partners, and the district health team have brought services closer to the community. Health practitioners now visit the group regularly, ensuring consistent access to treatment and support.

The group’s savings initiative has also addressed financial challenges faced by members. The Obulamu group’s progress reflects the strength of peer support and accessible healthcare. Their journey demonstrates the importance of community-driven solutions in improving health outcomes for people living with HIV.
