Reports to: Health Facility Lab Hub Coordinator (day to day supervisor) & anecca Senior HSS Advisor (Technical Supervisor)
Duty Station: Amudat, Kaabong
Job Role: To provide support in sample preparation, transportation, referral of specimens while conducting verification and documentation of these specimens and reception of results from testing laboratories in the regional lab hubs and reference laboratories at MoH/UNHLDS back to the different health facilities in line with laboratory procedures & MOH guidelines
Job Role & Responsibilities:

  1. Proficiently manage collected laboratory specimens and test results for Viral Load, EID, TB GeneXpert, CD4, CBC, Chemistry, histopathology tests, including samples/test results transported and delivered from/to health facilities served by the hubs, within the recommended specimen age procedures and required tests turnaround time (TAT).
  2. Track electronically all samples collected from each facility served by the hub up to the delivery to the testing Lab hub in the region or at MoH/UNHLDS reference laboratories using the mobile phone Application software (Res Track) system and also the status of test results for samples referred in line with the laboratory Standard operating procedures
  3. Support the hub Coordinator/Lab Advisor LPHSK-anecca to identify and report some routine hub reagents/supply gaps like for EID/VL cartridges, sample collection tubes at health facilities and help make requisitions for them from MOH/UNHLDS together with Hub Coordinator/LPHS-anecca -Senior HSS Advisor to avoid stock outs and service interruption
  4. Support the distribution of lab reagents/supplies from the hub and MoH/CPHL to the supported health facilities within the hub catchment area/district in line with MoH laboratory hub guidelines & distribution procedures
  5. Review and implement safety precautions during sample management (handling, packaging at health facilities/hub) and transportation to maintain healthy and safety aspects for unnecessary exposures to biological agents and other associated occupational hazards in line with internationally acceptable laboratory safety standards and laboratory Quality Assurance procedures/SOPs.
  6. Maintain the Hub motorcycle in a good working mechanical condition through routine servicing in liaison with the service providers and supervisors, ensuring its safe custody at the health Facility hub/storage place in line LPHSK- anecca-Uganda fleet management policy and MoH/UNHLDS Hub operational guidelines.
  7. Submit timely monthly fuel consumption reports and accountabilities periodically to the administration office in line with LPHSK-anecca-Uganda fleet management policy and MoH/UNHLDS Hub operational guidelines.
  8. Compile and submit timely daily, weekly, monthly reports of samples/results transported to the Supervisor as may be required with copy filed at the laboratory Hub in line with laboratory reporting procedures.
    Required Education Training, Experience, other relevant skills& personality attributes
  • Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent. UACE or higher qualifications i.e. Certificate in Medical laboratory, Diploma in Medical laboratory technology training in laboratory continuous quality improvement proficiency in using automated laboratory instructions will be an added advantage.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience implementing field project laboratory works with a reputable organization. Working with USAID related funded programs/organizations’ is an added advantage
  • Possession of a valid riding permit (Class A) is mandatory.
  • Experience in motorcycle riding, and good knowledge of motorcycle maintenance.
  • Demonstrated understanding and compliance to road safety & traffic rules and regulations of Uganda
  • Knowledge and skills for proper handling and transportation of infectious and hazardous substances.
  • A team player with excellent communication skills (both oral and written), office organizational skills and ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment & remote area such as Karamoja
